Thinking about Jody Domerstad? We are, too. We want to give you the latest update:
She powered through a successful surgery yesterday (Tuesday, Jan. 15.) to remove the benign tumor in the frontal lobe of her brain. Today, she’s in recovery mode in the Intensive Care Unit in Hackensack. Doctors say she’s doing well, and she could be discharged as early as Friday or Saturday. Then her journey to recovery begins.
She’s with her mom, sister Nancy, boyfriend Dan and close friends. We hear she was awake for a little while today, laughed, ate some solid food and is now totally wiped out. As she sleeps and heals, the family thanks the entire yoga community for the incredible outpouring of love and support. Jody wants us to know how much she loves and trusts all of us. If you’d like to reach her, email or Facebook is best. She obviously can’t get back to us right now, but we all know Jody. She’ll have so much to say–hopefully soon.
You have probably heard about her GoFundMe account called Pay For Jody’s Medical Bills. In less than three full days, yogis have raised $28,575. People shared the link to her site on Facebook 1,300 times. Also, donation yoga classes are going on all over New Jersey (see the schedule that we know of below, email Kristen to list yours). And Garden State will put on a fundraiser soon. A committee is working on the details, and we’ll post them here ASAP. There is so much we can do–and we’re doing it.
The way this community–your community–has come together is simply incredible. Words just aren’t enough to describe the generosity, compassion, grace and love that so many people have offered Jody.
In her one of her classes recently, she spoke about the universe providing each of us exactly what we need. She said, “Life does not happen to you. It happens for you. Whatever the situation is, pause, and say thank you. Whatever the universe is doing; it’s all for you.”
